Pharmaceutical facilities usually have a more complex HVAC system than a typical commercial or industrial building, due to the strict air quality standards they must maintain. Proper filtration is a necessity in these applications to minimize downtime and streamline production within the cleanrooms while capitalizing on energy savings within budget guidelines.
Make-up air units are typically used with a variety of filters to treat the air before it enters the cleanroom. Selecting products with a lower pressure drop inside of these units can result in lower energy costs for the facility. MERV 13 is the first point where E1 particle removal begins and is the minimum filter grade required under the LEED program.
A ceiling mounted HEPA or ULPA filter eliminates all submicron particulate that has made it through the make-up air system.
The final filter creates the clean environment needed for pharmaceutical applications while also providing laminar flow in the cleanrooms.
Ultraviolet lights have also been successfully used in pharmaceutical applications to irradiate any microbiological contaminants in the facility.
